NOURISHING YOUR INNER CENTRE

July 21, 2026

In a world that moves at an ever-faster pace, taking the time to listen to your body becomes an act of mindfulness. In our daily lives, constantly shaped by endless stimuli and fast decisions, our ability to truly listen to ourselves gradually diminishes. Chinese astrology associates this year to the Fire element, a symbol of vitality, freedom and movement, combining fiery intensity with speed. However, when Fire becomes excessive, it can deplete the vital essence known as Jing, affecting both mental clarity and the body’s ability to recover. In the year of the “Fire Horse”, rediscovering your inner centre is therefore more important than ever.

According to Chinese philosophy, food is the first form of medicine, and nutrition plays a fundamental role in maintaining health and preventing illness. It is not simply a source of nourishment, but a powerful means of supporting the body’s energetic balance every day. This concept is known as Yang Sheng, or “nourishing life”, a principle of Classical Chinese Medicine that teaches us to preserve our health through a balanced lifestyle, starting with the way we eat.

The modern concept of mindful eating shares many common principles with Classical Chinese Medicine, which regards every meal as an essential opportunity to nourish not only the body, but also its vital energy, or Qi. During the Year of the Fire Horse, it is particularly beneficial to favour predominantly Yin foods and flavours – sour, bitter and salty – whose naturally cooling properties help nourish the body’s energy at a deeper level.

It is also advisable to include foods that nourish specific organs and meridians. Carrots, potatoes, fennel and corn support the “Stomach Meridian”, while shiitake mushrooms, aubergines, millet, melon, chamomile, basil and anise nourish the “Kidney Meridian”, the source of our strength and resilience. These carefully selected foods help restore balance while supporting the body’s deepest vital energy. This same philosophy also inspires the Lefay SPA Menu, which follows a detoxifying, mildly calorie-controlled nutritional approach designed to provide sustained energy through carefully selected ingredients. Seasonings are kept to a minimum, using only small amounts of extra virgin olive oil, limited salt, and alternative sweeteners that do not affect the glycaemic index, allowing the authentic flavours of each ingredient to shine through.

Phytotherapy also plays an important role in supporting the body’s natural balance. Among the herbal infusions in the Lefay SPA phytotherapy line, “Il Sogno al Tramonto”, made with lemon-balm, passionflower, chamomile and schisandra, promotes relaxation and a sense of grounding. “Il Corso dell’Acqua”, containing cherry, equisetum leaves, elderflower and fennel seeds, supports the natural draining processes.

The year of the Fire Horse encourages us to embrace life with energy and determination while recognising the value of balance. Every daily choice, beginning with the food we eat, can become an opportunity to reconnect with ourselves. Nourishing the body also means rediscovering our inner centre – that place of harmony from which authentic, lasting wellbeing naturally flows.
