On the occasion of Plastic Free July, Lefay renews its commitment to an increasingly conscious approach to hospitality, where personal wellbeing is intrinsically linked to respect for the environment.
Founded in Australia in 2011, Plastic Free July has grown into a global movement that encourages millions of people, businesses and organisations to reduce their reliance on single-use plastics through simple everyday actions. It is an initiative that demonstrates how meaningful change can begin with small, conscious choices, capable of becoming lasting habits and creating a positive impact on the environment.
The use of plastic requires significant amounts of fossil fuels during its production process. Moreover, its extremely long degradation time contributes substantially to ecosystem pollution, promotes a disposable consumption model and hinders the development of an effective circular economy.
At Lefay, sustainability is not an initiative tied to a specific occasion, but a guiding principle that shapes every design and operational decision—from the way our Resorts are conceived and powered to the smallest details of the guest experience. It is a continuous journey built on everyday decisions that create a tangible, long-term impact.
Reducing the use of single-use plastics means rethinking every aspect of the guest experience. From our FSC-certified wooden suite key cards to refillable dispensers for our personal care amenities, every solution is designed to minimise waste while prioritising recyclable, recycled and low-impact materials.
Across the Group’s Resorts the use of plastic bottles has been phased out in favour of more sustainable materials, while the slippers available in the suites and at the SPA are made from natural materials such as cork, cotton and bamboo, making them entirely plastic-free. All amenities are also presented in biodegradable packaging.
The same philosophy extends to other areas of environmental stewardship, including the use of FSC-certified paper for printed materials and the adoption of innovative technologies, such as replacing traditional sand pool filters with recycled glass filtration systems, which improve filtration performance while reducing both water and energy consumption.
These initiatives reflect a broader vision, embodied in the Lefay Sustainability Manifesto, which defines the principles underpinning our environmental and social commitment.
Plastic Free July serves as an important reminder that meaningful change is the result of many small actions. By paying attention to every detail, we can all contribute, day after day, to building a more sustainable future.
