REDUCE EMISSIONS, BOOST IMPACT: WHY ISO 14064 MATTERS

Since sustainability has become part of people’s choices, it is increasingly important to clarify key concepts in this area. What does it mean for a company to obtain ISO 14064 certification?
This standard specifies the principles for the quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It is a tool that helps organisations reduce their emissions and contribute to environmental sustainability. But why is this important?
To combat climate change, conserve natural resources and protect biodiversity, ensuring a sustainable future, there is a need to reduce the ecological footprint. Reporting GHG emissions enables the calculation of the carbon footprint and the development of strategies to reduce emissions.
Since 2015, Lefay has been working towards reducing its emissions, implementing a system to measure these emissions and taking steps to offset those that cannot be avoided. This inventory is validated annually by TÜV Italia on the basis of the international standard ISO 14064 and was certified in 2025 in accordance with the standard, ensuring even more precise and accurate control.
Firstly, carbon accounting involves reporting on both the direct and indirect greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions resulting from Lefay’s activities. This includes emissions resulting from guest mobility, which significantly impact the overall balance sheet.
Secondly, efforts to reduce these emissions are underway through the implementation of a mitigation plan. This plan includes initiatives focused on energy efficiency, promoting renewable energy sources, and optimising the supply chain.
Finally, residual emissions are offset by purchasing certified credits that support projects aimed at reducing, avoiding or removing CO₂ from the atmosphere.
In 2025, Lefay committed to supporting a renewable energy project to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the climate. The project aims to improve the lives of local people significantly by funding initiatives. These include establishing a social fund to address community needs, creating sustainable agriculture workshops to promote food self-sufficiency, and implementing programmes dedicated to gender equality.
